The old walled town of Alcudia is in the hills behind the coast. There are remains around here from before 1200 BCE, and an archaeological dig of the Roman town (called Pollentia, and founded about 123 BCE) is just outside of the current town's walls. The current town dates from the town's founding in 1298 around a Muslim farmhouse, when it acquired Templar connections. The walls were completed in 1362.
