Visit to Great Yarmouth

Well, we were staying very near Great Yarmouth, but didn't actually get to the place until Saturday (24 May)! We went in by bus on our free passes, to save the problems of trying to park. The bus took a very round about route, taking us through and past the docks. It was quite interesting, but I wouldn't want to do it regularly! The bus dropped us right outside the Wetherspoon's! But it was too early then. The market was on, so we went round that. I've never seen so many chip stalls! But a pretty good market.

I discovered the Fishermen's hospital (alms houses sort-of). They were very interesting. Then we went back to The Troll Cart, Wetherspoon's. After lunch we went down the 'Rows' via a nice coffee shop for afternoon tea, then along the interesting South Quay along the river Yar. There were several old houses, the customs house, the ruins of the Priory, the 'Row House' and interesting statues and memorial there (the stone sofa), and the Battle of Copenhagen Memorial (Nelson's fleet left from and returned to Yarmouth). Then finally back to the main shopping street to catch our bus back.
