Break at Bury St Edmunds

On our way back on Monday 26 May, we had a break at Bury St Edmunds. I'd been wanting to do that for years. It was rather wet, but fortunately the rain stopped before we got there, I found somewhere to park for an hour round the back of the cathedral.

We went through the churchyard by the ruins of the abbey, through the abbey gate and into the impressive cathedral. Some of it has only been finished in the last couple of years, but most of it is from the abbey time in the 11th century. Then through another abbey gate into the cathedral gardens, which are lovely (pity about the dull weather). Had to get back to the van then – we'd used up the hour.
