Burgh Castle

Thursday 22 May: Off fairly early to the nearby Burgh Castle (pronounced borough locally), an impressive Roman fort of 280 AD (one of the Saxon shore forts). We parked near the little church with the round tower and walked across the fields to it. You could hear the larks, and the wildflower meadows were lovely, but the flies were a pest!

Lowestoft

On Friday we went to Lowestoft. I turned into North Denes and found a good place to park. That was near the top of the cliffs and just over the bridge to Belle Vue park and the Naval Memorial.

We had our picnic lunch there, and it was hot.

Then I found that we were right next to Sparrows Nest. So we walked down through the garden and round back up to the Naval Memorial.

We then caught a bus to Lowestoft bus station (which was being rebuilt, so some parts blocked off). We looked round the shops, and bought some ice-creams from Iceland, and gave three away. We walked right down the main street and over the bridge to the beach. It was very cold there, and very windy. By the time we got back over the bridge we were in need of a warm, so went into MacDonald's for a hot chocolate.
